Folks:
This morning, 5/5/07, I walked around the Ulistac Natural Area in
Santa Clara. There were a some migrants, but few were singing: four
VAUX'S SWIFTS among the Cliff Swallow flocks, an ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER, a skulking SWAINSON'S THRUSH heard calling, an
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS (one singing once), at
least 4 WESTERN TANAGERS, and 2-3 singing BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS. I
ran into Janna Pauser and Freddie Howells and their Wild Bird Center
trip and I suspect they encountered most of these birds and perhaps more.
I then stopped by the Arzino Ranch. The two alternate CATTLE EGRETS
were among the horses in the pasture. Around the stables, there were
dozens of European Starlings, but two Brewer's Blackbird overhead
were the only blackbirds seen. At least one BURROWING OWL was in the pasture.
