All,
Yesterday (3/11) 19 - 20 birders joined the SCVAS field trip to
Uvas Creek Park Preserve in Gilroy, birding between Christmas Hill
Park (Miller Ave) and Santa Teresa Blvd and back. The hoped for
Phainopepla found three days earlier in a Mistletoe bearing Oak by Sue Kruse was
not re-found :-(. Best birds included an OSPREY (flying upstream),
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, WESTERN BLUEBIRD, VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW (first of the
year for me), FOX SPARROW and PURPLE FINCH. We had great
views of perched and flying RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and COOPER'S HAWKS
and of singing CALIFORNIA THRASHERS. Toward the end of the trip
we added a male AMERICAN WIGEON and during lunch had nice flyover views of an
adult GOLDEN EAGLE and WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS.
Take care,
