On a permitted night hike on Sunday, Karen DeMello,
Jan Hintermeister, Kay Partelow and a few other folks got close looks
at a ROCK WREN at the top of Black Mountain around 8:00. On the way up,
there were also WESTERN BLUEBIRD and WHITE-THROATED SWIFT. On our
return trip, we heard GREAT-HORNED OWL and a distant WESTERN
SCREECH-OWL. One other non-bird sighting some of us got was a quarter-sized male Phidippus jumping spider, with orange abdomen and bright teal chericilae (mandibles), with front legs raised ready to chase us away (and he tried to). Debbi Brusco |
