Folks:
This morning, 7/17/07, I started at the Alviso EEC and made a
clockwise loop around by the RR tracks with a return along Salt Pond
A16. Shorebirds seemed about as expected for July. I had about 415
phalaropes in the marsh. Of those I could get good looks at, about
246 were WILSON'S PHALAROPES and 82 were RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES. Along A16, there were pairs of BLACK SKIMMERS on the
first and second islands. On the first island, both were standing,
but on the second island, the male was acting as a mate guard and the
female appeared to be incubating.
