[SBB] no Brant

Today, 15 Feb 07, I went to the pond under hwy 85 at the end of the Guadalupe River Trail. Here I found 5 CACKLING GEESE and the GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE – no Brant. Also interesting was a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, seemingly out of place on this inland pond. Overhead at least 5 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS were circling (they’ve bred at this overpass in past years). I returned after lunch and found Bill and Peggy Don and Janna Pauser here, but the same birds as earlier. Peggy showed me her photo of the Brant.

Later, I went to the EEC in Alviso, where a first cycle GLAUCOUS GULL was resting on the first island in salt pond A16.

Later still, I had a flock of 50-60 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS over an open field near Trimble and First St in San Jose.
