All: This morning, Feb 1, at 10 AM, I drove to the 3rd bridge up Stevens Canyon Road where I dimly heard (above the creek noise) a possibly singing American Dipper. As I walked downstream the sound got louder until I was apparently standing just above the hidden singer. Sometimes it was a kinglet-like complaint, but mostly it was a soft, sweetly-singing mockingbird -- without the repetitions. Finally a noisy sports car drove by, and two dippers flew downstream from just below me. I followed them for a while, but they complained and flew further downstream. So I left them alone. Note: I sent the above the other day before going on the excellent Morro Bay/Corrizo Plain trip -- but it apparently bounced, so now I'm trying again. |
