[SBB] Lesser Scaup ducklings at the EEC 8/12

Yesterday, I birded the EEC (Alviso) with Mike Mammoser from 12:00-3:30 p.m. Highlights included a juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER in New Chicago Marsh seen from the main levee. Two SNOWY PLOVERS were seen in the northwest corner of New Chicago marsh. We had incredible looks at the two BLACK TERNS that have been present there also. Our most interseting sighting was a LESSER SCAUP with her 3 ducklings! This scaup family was in the northwest corner of the channel that runs along the A16 levee. The ducklings were very young (dark and fuzzy). Aside from the incredible numbers of peeps and phalaropes, there was a massive feeding frenzy of AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, SNOWY EGRETS, GREAT EGRETS, GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS, peeps etc. on the large algal mat that is present at the beginning of the main levee. Very exciting to see and very noisy too.
