[SBB] More Semipalmated Sandpipers

I once again visited New Chicago Marsh today, 9 Aug
07, where I found 3 juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS.
Two were in the small pond just north of the spur line
railroad tracks, near where these tracks intersect
with the main line. Certainly one, and possibly both,
of these birds is/are new, and would represent the 4th
and/or 5th individuals that I've seen this season. The
third bird was on the algae mat of A16 near the levee,
where it is intersected by the boardwalk. This bird
looked a lot like one that Steve Rottenborn and I saw
last Saturday.

The pond with the first two SESA also had an immature
SNOWY PLOVER and two juvenile LESSER YELLOWLEGS. At
one point an adult PEREGRINE FALCON got all the birds
up in the air on its way towards the entrance road
power towers, where it sat for the remainder of my
visit.

The pair of BLACK SKIMMERS on the first island is
still caring for eggs, and I watched them tag-team a
GREAT EGRET until it left the area. The pair on the
second island was surrounded by gulls, and I hope they
were brooding their young to keep them safe.
