This evening (31 July), I had an adult Semipalmated Sandpiper north of the
railroad tracks in New Chicago Marsh in Alviso. The bird was in mostly
alternate plumage but had started to acquire some basic scapulars. Also
present were two Snowy Plovers (one each in the northeast and northwest
parts of the marsh), 2 Lesser Yellowlegs (vs. 5 Greaters), 3 Whimbrels, and
an adult Peregrine Falcon snacking on something on the ground in the marsh.
Two juveniles were among the 250 or so Western Sandpipers; all of the 150
Leasts were adults.
