Against all odds, Pat Kenny and I went to Ed Levin
CP to give the Calliope Hummingbird one more chance this morning, 4/26/07.
About 8am we managed only two female SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRDs around the dog
park and locust trees. Then we headed up to the sycamores, to the
water tank, and finally up the hill behind the sycamores. To the
sycamores we had our first GRASSHOPPER SPARROWs of at least 3-4 for the day,
LAZULI BUNTINGs, and LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHes. Past the sycamores we
saw a light, adult SWAINSON'S HAWK disappear over a ridge to the
northeast. Both VAUX'S and WHITE-THROATED SWIFTs were high over the
hills. Two RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROWs were up past the tank, and there was a
LARK SPARROW in the tree right at the top. Also, a few GOLDEN-CROWNED and
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWs were still around.
