[SBB] More Lawrences Goldfinches at Ed Levin

Hi Birders-

Hadn't checked any posts from the last day and a half, hence I was oblivious of Calliope Hummers at Ed Levin while I was there this morning. At the Spring Valley area Lawrence's Goldfinch seemed to be all over. I could only confirm three males and one female, but there seemed to be at least three pairs and probably more. They were covering the whole area from the tamarisks to the corral, but were concentrated near the dense shade trees (oaks I guess) beind the rangers office. A female gathering dried grass was flying into these trees and I think there are at least two nests in them. Males were flying out to the smaller trees around the flagpole to sing and chase each other. Got some very close-up views. There were brief appearences by two Hutton's Vireos and five Western Kingbirds in the pines on the lawn. A pair of Hooded Orioles was in the willow overhanging the E end of the pond. Tomorrow, hopefully hummers.

Milpitas
