All,
On the way into work this morning 9/29/06, I birded along Stevens Creek
from south of L'Avenida to Crittenden Lane. After several days of no
reports, I was somewhat surprised to find the NORTHERN PARULA working
its favored trees from 8:06am to 8:11am. Late-season migrants are
showing up, with 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 2 HERMIT THRUSHES, and 10
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. Sparrow numbers are also increasing, with 14
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, 10 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 7 GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS, 5 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, and 2 FOX SPARROWS found this morning.
Other migrants included 11 YELLOW WARBLERS, 6 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, 2
"WESTERN" FLYCATCHERS, 2 HOUSE WRENS, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, and 1
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER. Most unexpected was a single ACORN WOODPECKER that
flew from the creek riparian into the Moffett housing complex just north
of L'Avenida.
