All,
After Mike Rogers pointed me toward the female Orange Bishop this morning,
9/21, I watched her weaving a nest near the base of green reeds
approximately 80-90 feet north of the lone eucalyptus tree on the east side
of Stevens Creek. The Bishop would grasp the edge of a reed in her beak;
tear off a strip, sometimes by flying up with it in her beak; fly back to
the same spot in tall green reeds; drop down near the base of the reeds; and
weave the new strip into a growing nest. The nest is visible from the lower
path. Watching her doing that was a nice compensation for missing the
Northern Parula by two minutes I was told.
I did not see the male Orange Bishop during the 15-20 minutes I watched nest
construction.
