[SBB] New Chicago Marsh

In anticipation of the upcoming shorebird count in November, I decided to go to New Chicago Marsh and do a dry run on my itinerary for that day. I didn't tie this run to any tide conditions, though.

Of general interest were 2 juvenile basic-plumaged RUFFS in the largish pond west of the railroad tracks down near the junction with the main line. It's pretty tough to separate these birds with plumage marks. I wonder if more than 2 have been seen at the same time in recent days? (I believe that 4 individuals have been reported this season)

In the muddy back area of the same pond as the Ruffs, there was a single PECTORAL SANDPIPER. A SNOWY PLOVER was along the edge of the pond at State and Spreckles.

I also had 3 MEW GULLS mixed in with the RING-BILLED and CALIFORNIA GULLS at State and Spreckles. Salt Pond A16 had 12 BROWN PELICANS, a BARN OWL was in the nest box along the slough, and a YELLOW WARBLER was in the trees next to the building.
