Hi All,
Spent a little over an hour at the little pond at Monte Bello's Gate 5
pond this morning 10/21/2006. At about 9:30 a duo of Lawrence's
Goldfinches tinkled over and settled into a dead-topped willow - the
exact tree where I have seen a twosome of LAGO several times earlier
this fall, so presumably these are the same birds. Their favorite
treetop is pretty well screened on all sides and they seem very shy, so
I don't usually get very good looks at them. Today was somewhat better
though; I could clearly see the front of an adult male with the
entirely black face and bright, buttery breast, and a female-plumaged
individual with him.
Other birds there were scarce overall, but it was nice to see two
Wilson's Snipe and a swimming Sora.
Good birding everyone,
Garth Harwood
