Hi all:
Beautiful Richardson's/Prairie Merlin in the magic
Redwood tree yesterday.
Just kinda floated in and scattered all the starlings.
Very pretty slate blue-gray wings and back.
Red-breasted sapsucker has been seen and heard close
to the parking lot for the past week. Belted
Kingfisher has been working the creek for the past two
afternoons. Juvenile, so maybe he/she will adopt us
for its new territory.
Adult Cooper's Hawk and a juvenile Sharp-shinned Hawk
in the same tree on Thursday. The Coop was the first
to leave. No blood was spilled. Detante.
If you've been thinking: "Now when was the last time I
got my face painted... I think I'm overdue...." (and I
do understand that maybe you weren't thinking this at
all), we have our 15th annual Wildlife Education Day
at the Ranch from 10-2 today. Should be a completely
feel-good day with live raptors, bugville,
face-painting, and lots of interactive "stuff". Free
shuttle ride into the ranch from Monta Vista High
School.
C'mon down!
Good Birding,
Bob Power
