[SBB] Starling Mimic

Currently, our neighborhood in Sunnyvale (corner of Myrtle Dr. & White Oak -- not far from Lawrence expy/El Camino) has a particularly virtuoso Starling in Residence. He has fooled me three times in the past two days with his mimicry. I just dashed out of the house when heard his rendition of "Quick, Three Beers" by the Olive-Sided Flycatcher, but the only bird singing that song in my yard today (or any other day) was Mr. Starling.

Yesterday, he had me grabbing for my binoculars and running to find that there was not a Western Meadowlark on my neighbor's TV antenna, nor was there a California Quail sitting in the top of the 50' palm tree.

(Am I correct in assuming that it is the male starling that performs these vocal feats?)
