[SBB] Palo Alto Baylands

While I was out running errands, I did a short run up at Palo Alto
baylands and the duck pond, just because I wanted to get outside for a
bit (as much as anything...). the duck pond showed only the usual
suspects with nothing interesting to report. When I was up there, it
was high tide, so there was pretty much zero shorebird activity, with
some black and white stilts standing in the reeds to the east of the
road. driving out to the windsurfer dock and back, I had a bird pop
out of the brush and stand on a post, and a quick look at it I
realized it was a new one for me, so I grabbed the camera and snapped
a few shots. Checking here back at home it turns out to be a Say's
Phoebe. It was in the brush just south of the bathrooms down the road
past the parking lot.

Driving back, I realized there was somethign in the air over the
stiilts, so I pulled into the parking lot and grabbed my glasses. It
was a little white-tailed kite hovering, which is ANOTHER new bird for
me (although Laurie's seen them more than once here). I got a few
shots of them, also, before they flew off.

Not bad for a "don't get out of the car" day.
