Folks:
I stopped at Shoreline Lake this morning, 11/21/06. A pair of
BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were in the northwest corner, not more than 30
feet from the trail there. I didn't see any there five days ago when
I checked. My count of Common Goldeneyes was 31, which is about the
same as on 11/16. Five Surf Scoters were on the lake, which means a
couple of wintering birds have shown up, but nothing like we'll see
in a month. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was on the shore and an adult BROWN
PELICAN was foraging in the lake (an adult was here on 11/16 as
well). An adult RED-TAILED HAWK was breakfasting on a coot, while
the surviving relatives stuck to the water. I didn't see the
Red-tail take the coot, but I can't imagine it is too difficult.
