On Thursday, 11/16, I was birding along the Adobe Creek Trail on the Palo Alto/Mountain View border. At about 11:00 a.m., two other birders drew my attention to a Barn Owl flying low over the marsh between Adobe Creek and Bixbee Park. As it flew back and forth, giving us many views, we tried and tried to morph it into a Short-earred Owl, to no avail. We thought it unusual to see a Barn Owl hunting by day, but decided it had probably been unsuccessful hunting the night before, and was hungry.
