[SBB] Western Bluebird pair

Today, Sunday Nov. 5 we found sites for five nest boxes in an area between Coleman and Taylor along the Guadalupe River trail downtown San Jose. As Lee hung the first box I found a pair of Western Bluebirds perched together in a walnut tree right over the trail!! We saw another pair or possibly the same pair later on a wire and took photos.

I spotted 20 White-throated Swifts flying over the river at Coleman and heard them along the trail all the way to Hedding. Two Loggerhead Shrike were found again today. Some other birds seen were White and Golden crowned Sparrows, dozens of Yellow rumped Warblers, five No. Flickers, two imm. Red tailed Hawks, a Red shouldered Hawk and a male Am. Kestrel.

Our thanks to Kary Houle for expediting the process which allowed us to hang nest boxes in just two weeks!! Further study may mean more nest boxes on this wonderful downtown trail.
