This afternoon, 3 Nov 06, I had a basic-plumaged STILT SANDPIPER in the pond at State and Spreckles, in New Chicago Marsh. Best looks were about 20 yards off of Spreckles at the gate for the landscaping company there.
There were also 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS in the pond that has formed on the south side of the entrance road to the EEC.
At the EEC itself I had a YELLOW WARBLER in the butterfly garden. A nice adult THAYER'S GULL was out on salt pond A16.
On Wednesday, 1 Nov 06, I checked out the weedy fields just west of Calabazas Creek and north of hwy 237. My efforts produced a richly-colored fall plumage GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. This bird had me going for a few minutes, with visions of Baird's Sparrow dancing in my head. Oh well.
