[SBB] House Wren & Golden-crowned Kinglets

SBBers,

Yesterday, 11/01/06, I heard and then caught a couple of quick glimpses of a HOUSE WREN just north of the Crittenden Lane bridge.  The handsome ORANGE BISHOP pair was near the first willow south of the bridge.  On the euc tree a juvenile COOPER'S HAWK would have been a photo opp if I had my camera.  A YELLOW WARBLER was about 50 yards south of the euc tree.

Later as I arrived at the double road of cottonwoods from the parking lot to the right of the kiosk at the Sunnyvale Baylands I heard the GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETs as they foraged overhead.  I counted at least three but there could have been more.  I found it challenging to track them as they moved through the leaves frenetically.  At times they would hover like hummingbirds.

In the creek there was a lone EARED GREBE.  In the same area a LINCOLN'S SPARROW and LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE posed cooperatively.  Two WHITE-TAILED KITEs dove repeatedly at a perched RED-TAILED HAWK and escorted it out of the vicinity.

Last Sunday, 10/29/06, I biked around Salt Pond A4.  There were about 30 aechmophorus grebes in the pond including at least 5 CLARK'S and 7 WESTERN GREBEs.  There were also PIED-BILLED and EARED GREBEs present.  On the narrow island strip there were 8 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANs.  There were very few ducks in the pond.  I only saw a few NORTHERN SHOVELERs, RUDDY DUCKs, and a single AMERICAN WIGEON.
