Hi Birders,

I spent the morning birding Mines Road and Del Puerto Canyon. Highlights were 2 LAWRENCE’S GOLDFINCH and 2 LEWIS’ WOODPECKERS (copulating) observed along Mines Road near 48610 where there is a sign labeled ‘Ruthie’s Shopping Mall’ (Santa Clara County). In addition, I had at least 6 more LAWRENCE’s GOLDFINCH at the junction of Mines Road and Del Puerto Canyon Road across the street from the fire station (Santa Clara County). During the rest of the morning I also had about 10 each of the following: CALIFORNIA THRASHER, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, and BULLOCK’S ORIOLE. ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS were plentiful along the whole stretch.
