Guadalupe Oak Grove Park was rather quiet today. I always check the Bushtit nest over the parking lot, and today Lesser Goldfinch were removing bits of the nest which is barely holding together and full of nestlings!! The Coopers Hawk was seen hunting again. As I was looking for the singing Wilson's Warbler, a beautiful pair of W. Tanagers flew by!! My FOS, and once again in my neighborhood park. I guess that's inevitable since I haven't been birding much elsewhere!!
Hoping to find more WETA I drove to the Mazzone bridge at the Alamitos Creek trail where I found a Lincoln's Sparrow, and a Nutmeg Mannikin. A pair of Bullocks Orioles were removing fibers from a palm tree and flew off to their nest site. I didn't see the W. Kingbird near Lake Almaden, so I walked along Winfield Blvd. where I found three Western Kingbirds on a telephone pole near the entrance to Boulder Ridge Golf Course. The pair of WEKI chased the third bird off after much discussion. Two more male Bullocks Orioles, a Hermit Thrush and House Wren were also seen.
