All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I decided to check out the northern
portion of Ed Levin County Park. The trail up past "Sycamore Gulch" was in
fact passable but birding was very slow we did, however, manage to
find a couple RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROWS, a HOUSE WREN, a WESTERN KINGBIRD, a BARN
OWL a few BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and a couple COOPER'S HAWKS (at one point a
COHA went whizzing past us on the trail, from at the top of the hill, and
managed to catch a RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD near the bottom of the hill). The
Barn Owl was the only Owl seen in the picnic area below the dam. We did
manage to see a male AMERICAN KESTREL deliver a good sized mouse to a large hole
in a tree near the lower parking lot..
Take care,
Bob Reiling
