I spent last Saturday morning at Palo Alto Baylands. I expected
nesting avocets, stilts, night-herons and egrets.
I didn't expect an Anna's hummingbird mom feeding her nestlings.
Didn't want to disturb the mother, so I only got one feeding
sequence. Maybe we should call these guys swordswallowers:

I went back yesterday morning and made sure the nestlings were OK:

These black-crowned night herons were above and about 10 yards
southwest of the ranger's house.
Baylands daybreak, EOS 1D mk II, EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS.
Feeding nestlings, EOS 20D, EF 400mm f/4 DO IS, most with EF 1.4X II converter.
Recent nestlings, EOS 1D mark II, EF 500mm f/4L IS, EF 1.4X
converter, 25mm and 12mm extension rings.
Night heron and nestlings, EOS 1D mark II, EF 500mm f/4L IS, 1.4X
teleconverter.
