I visited Alum Rock Park this morning to check for AMerican Dipper and
perhaps some early migrants. I didn't manage to find the Dipper, checking
from the YSI upstream through the Mineral Springs area. There was an
impressive concentrations of resident birds near the YSI, including at
least 15 Steller's Jays in 2-3 adjacent small trees along the creek. And
a female Common Merganser was in the creek. No hint of spring arrivals
other than an Orange-crowned Warbler.
I hadn't seen any swallows yet this year, so I next tried Sandy Wool
Lake at Ed Levin Park, which had a nice flock: at least two dozen birds,
mostly Tree, but also including Violet-green and Northern Rough-winged.
But, again, these were the only spring migrants I found.
Finally, at the Arzino Ranch, a fine view of an adult Golden Eagle (which
landed in the field). The Goose flock was (unusually) absent.
