All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I had several ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS
feeding low over the first pond northwest of the walking bridge over Los Gatos
Creek Park/Oka Ponds. We also had a MERLIN on the other side of
the creek near the bridge, several WILSON'S SNIPE on the northern edge of the
pond nearest the Oka Lane entrance, the OSPREY was perched in the tree on the
small island in the largest (northern most) pond and a couple female HOODED
MERGANSERS continue in the ponds near the Oka Lane entrance. Nothing
special was seen in Almaden Lake Park or in Calero Reservoir (a few COMMON
MERGANSERS). At Ogier Ponds we had lots of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS
(with a few TREE SWALLOWS mixed in) over the first pond on the right (south)
side of the entrance and a couple WOOD DUCKS in the first pond to the left
(north) of the entrance. Nothing of interest in the Coyote Creek Golf
Course ponds or in the fish ponds located north of Felter Road. I should
add that we made a brief detour on Santa Teresa Blvd south of Bailey Ave and
while driving east on Laguna Ave spotted a PRAIRIE FALCON also going east
along the road which then perched briefly in the top of a bare tree
near a small group of fine homes located off Laguna Ave on Dougerty
Ave (unfortunately only distant views of this bird).
Take care,
Bob Reiling
