This morning, 22 May 06, I had a GREATER ROADRUNNER along Metcalf Road about 0.6 miles east of hwy 101. The bird crossed the road in front of me and foraged for a bit along the edge before disappearing down the slope. This is at a point where the road makes a right curve with a fair-sized pullout on the left.
Also, I walked the Coyote Creek bike path south from Metcalf Road to the creek crossing south of Coyote Ranch Road. A small number of YELLOW WARBLERS, WARBLING VIREOS, ASH-THOATED FLYCATCHERS, and HOUSE WRENS are likely residents. However, a calling WESTERN TANAGER is certainly a migrant. An adult GREEN HERON fly by twice between Coyote Ranch Marsh and the trail crossing of the creek south of there. I wouldn't be surprised if it's breeding nearby. A GOLDEN EAGLE was soaring over the Santa Teresa hills. The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK nest has small young.
