[SBB] Action at the Baylands this morning...



I spent the early morning at Palo Alto Baylands. No cattle egret, but 
I saw the usual suspects for this time of year.

In the Harriet Mundy Marsh, three Avocet chicks about one week old 
paced around. Here's one of them:

They ditched parental protection and struck out on their own, almost 
right under Mom's nose:

But they usually traveled in pairs for safety. Sometimes the whole 
family trooped off together. But eventually, young birds went back to

Next stop was the boat-launching ramp. You expect chummy barn swallows:

But a dancing snowy egret was a bonus:

Meanwhile, at the rookery, another snowy egret showed off scarlet 
breeding lores and peach feet:
