Re: [SBB] CCFS

Collared Dove numbers have shot up recently in the Half Moon Bay area. It seems like there is an early May movement of these critters, as before this numbers have been stable for a while. They seem to like the coast, we have a bunch of spots where they are regular now. The birds in Half Moon Bay are displaying noticeably now, and are surely nesting here.

I went to CCFS this morning, 16 May 06, and birded the riparian corridor just south of the waterbird pond. A couple of YELLOW WARBLERS were singing in this area. Most interesting, though, was a EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE that landed on the fence as I was walking back to my car. It sat for about 30 seconds before flying off towards the waterbird pond. I headed that way to try and refind it, but only came up with a couple of WESTERN KINGBIRDS. The waterbird pond itself had a leucistic BLACK-NECKED STILT. This bird may have been an immature, as it was slightly smaller than the other stilts there. It had a light brownish rear crown and nape and some mottled dusky patches in the wings. Otherwise it was generally white. It also had a bicolored bill, with the base half being pinkish and the rest black.

The RED-TAILED HAWK nest at the southern gate has a couple of chicks in it.
