A juvenile Cooper's Hawk paid a short visit to our backyard a couple of
days ago, sitting on the lattice house where I keep cacti and feed
squirrels and jays. I don't know how long it stayed because I didn't see it
fly in. It was a probable refugee from the crows that were carrying on
nearby. It didn't seems to be hunting.
About two years ago, a COHA swooped down on a black squirrel (melanistic
western gray) in our back yard, surprising both the squirrel and human
observers.
