This afternoon (6/15) at 3:00 pm the CATTLE EGRET was seen again on the
south side of the heronry island at Almaden Lake. I'm thinking that this
egret may be spending time deep within the cane brakes blending in with the
Great & Snowy Egrets and their young, and then occasionally coming out onto
the outer limbs. I saw the bird at mid-afternoon, so perhaps it doesn't
matter what time of day it's looked for. Once visible, the apricot-colored
crown, breast and back feathers, plus its stocky stance and orangy-yellow bill
make this bird easy to identify when it chooses to be out in the open.
I did not see the Little Blue Heron during this afternoon visit
today.
