Folks:
A great many people who provide records to SBB include the date of
their observations within the text or in the subject line. This is
really helpful to me in keeping the county notebooks and I appreciate
the extra effort these folks put out. Thank you! Thank you!
For those of you who do not include dates, you may find it
interesting to look at the headers of various correspondents over a
few week's period. My e-mail system allows me to select local time
or other time references (I use the former), but this depends upon
the time that is set on each correspondent's computer (and maybe a
few other things). A minority of SBB correspondents have their
machines set to Eastern Standard time, I assume for very good
reasons, but this can make the interpretation of the time confusing
for those of us who are easily confused, and I certainly fall into
that category. A small number of people use Greenwich Mean Time,
which is even more confusing. I have e-mailed a few people on
occasions and they have insisted that their operating system is set
to Pacific Time and I have no reason to doubt them. But on my
e-mail, their messages come through in with another time zone
reference. So, for those of us who care about observations and what
day of the week they actually occur on, it is immensely helpful if
you give the date in your text (or the day of the week, I can handle
that. But, sometimes people give both the date and the day of the
week and they do not always agree. I've done that.).
Thanks for your continuing observations and records.
