Re: [SBB] Yellow Canary (ies?)

Dotty,

In June, 1997, we had a Yellow Canary show up in our backyard.  This bird appeared totally exhausted.  I spotted it laying motionless in our lawn sprinkle spray.  I literally walked over and picked it up.  I held it to my chest under a towel for about 15-20 minutes and it started to revive, so I sent Janet to find a cage.  It recovered and we had the bird for the next 4 years.  We named it "Lucky".  I miss the singing sometimes.

On another note, Janet and I walked at Ed Levin this morning.  Most of fire(s) up in the foothills missed the main areas of the park.  The top of the hill west of Downing Road, bordered on the north by Old Calaveras Road and Calaveras Road on the south was burnt.

A large mixed flocks of goldfinch were near the Spring Valley pond, as well as two Lazuli Buntings.  They were feeding on the tall grass seed heads on the back-side of the pond.

Lots of juvie Dark-eyed Juncos were around the picnic tables.

15-18 Turkeys with 1/2 grown youngsters and about 40 Canada Geese were near Sandy Wool Lake.

They were mowing the lawns at both locations, so birding was a bit slow, but then......so am I.

Early Tuesday morning on a walk around the Charleston Road Marsh, I saw a Yellow Canary with a few American Goldfinches.  At first I thought it might be an albino "something," as it was quite pale.  However, binocular views showed a Yellow Canary.  This morning, a Yellow Canary was feeding at my thistle feeder, also with several American Golldfinches.  Has anyone else noticed Yellow Canaries on the loose?
