The WESTERN SCREECH OWL was out and seen this morning (9:20 am). Very handsome bird, a bit sleepy as he surveyed the ranks of photographers. A RED-TAILED HAWK was dismembering a California Towhee on the Tennis Court fence (it appeared to be having trouble balancing on one foot as it ripped feathers out of its prey). A STELLER'S JAY and a ROBIN came out to watch? hassle? look for scraps? and the Jay got within 2 feet of the hawk. There is a pair of WESTERN BLUEBIRDS in the same area as the Owl, nesting?
