I birded for a few hours before work this morning. I spotted an adult Sharp-shinned Hawk on a snag at Coleman and Meridian. While observing that bird an Osprey flew west down Guadalupe Creek.
The SCV water district was good with more woodland species than I've seen in the past. Today I saw an Oak Titmouse pair, Spotted Towhee and three Fox Sparrows, one of them singing. A good variety of ducks, egrets and herons also seen. Two Bufflehead pair have returned and three pair of C. Goldeneye still present, along with Ruddy Ducks, Ring necked Ducks and L. Scaup. Both Peregrine Falcons and a juv. Red shouldered Hawk were perched in Sycamore trees. A small flock of 7 Nutmeg Mannikins seen on the north side.
I stopped at Guadalupe Oak Grove Park, where the trees in the parking lot were full of birds. Another Orange crowned Warbler was seen there with a mixed flock. Ruby crowned Kinglets were all over the place picking bugs off tree trunks. One RCKI was right at my feet. It seemed to be a feeding frenzy because the rain finally stopped.
