Out running on the Guadalupe river levees early this afternoon I saw a pair of strange Grebes? Noticeabley bigger than the PBGs (by 30-40%) on the same pond they had normal grebe coloring (Grey backs, brownish flanks, pale under the tail), along with whitish chins. Large headed with steep forehead and very small billed (which ruled out RBG). Any ideas? Is this just some kind of PBG variant?
