Like many birders today, I stopped by San Antonio and Terminal. One of the
first birds I saw was a male DOWNY WOODPECKER in the Coyote Bushes just to
the right of the trail as you left Terminal Way. He had a really large red
patch and let me pass by within 6' without flushing. Out of place, perhaps,
but fun. There were also at least 40 BLACK CROWNED NIGHTHERONS visible in
the mid-afternoon.
On the trail along the creek from Geng Road was an American Kestrel-- but on
the San Mateo County side of the creek. He refused to cross the line while
I was there!
Happy New Year!
