Title: Coe Birds
Taking advantage of the recent excellent weather, Amy and I spent the weekend on a back-packing trip to Henry Coe State Park. Birds of interest included a Red-breasted Nuthatch near park HQ. These birds a very uncommon in the park and most records are during the autumn. A small flock of Violet-green Swallows was observed along Coyote Creek, at least a full week earlier than any previous records for this species. Resident Sage Sparrows were seen and heard singing in the chamise on the warm slopes of Bear Mtn.
California Thrashers are common in the park, but it was interesting to hear them singing robustly all over the place this early in the year.
