[SBB] Greater White Fronted Geese/ Burrowing Owl

We spent most of Christmas Day at my sons in Morgan Hill. After brunch the "girls" walked around the San Pedro Recharge Ponds on Hill Rd. off E.Dunne. I was amazed to find five Greater White Fronted Geese at the first pond. We were quite close to them as they preened and rested among many Canada Geese. Also on the pond were f. Common Merganser, Bufflehead, Ruddy Ducks, Mallards and Black- necked Stilts. Most other ponds were empty, just big holes in the ground. As we walked to the back of the first pond and turned south my daughter-in-law Patti, spotted something on the side of an empty pond. A Burrowing Owl was in front of his well protected burrow below ground level.

We always drive the back roads to Morgan Hill and made several stops on the way home finding the Ferruginous Hawk off Richmond in the middle of a plowed field a little further east than usual.  From the end of Richmond I spotted 20 Tule Elk on the hillside east of 101. They were grazing in a green pasture about mid level. A Loggerhead Shrike was perched on a fence near IBM's walking trail. Three Say's Phoebes, 5 White-tailed Kites, several Red tailed and Red shouldered Hawks, 2 No. Harriers, and 3 Am. Kestrels were seen on the drive home. We stopped at Calero but didn't see any eagles, only half a dozen Wild Boars and their young near the shore. I was barely able to make out twenty some female and two male Common Mergansers on the reservoir. Twenty two Wild Turkeys were foraging on the hillside along McKean Rd.
