[SBB] Geng Road, Palo Alto

Today at lunchtime Jan Hintermeister & I saw 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE amidst a hundred CANADA GEESE on the grass at the Palo Alto Golf Course.   A couple of FOX SPARROWS flitted in the bushes near the trail, and ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS twinkled between bright fuscia and black as they perched and turned their heads in the light.

>From the bridge above San Francisquito Creek we saw a handful of DUNLIN next to WESTERN SANDPIPERS and DOWITCHERS, and further down the creek CINNAMON TEAL and GREEN-WINGED TEAL.

At the pond I pointedJan's scope to a Female BUFFLEHEAD and told him to take a look.  His reply of "it's a SORA" surprised me.  Sure enough, the Bufflehead dove and a Sora emerged.  When I looked through the scope I saw both birds.  We saw another SORA further down as well, as well as 10 WILSON'S SNIPE.  I'm not sure I've ever seen that many Snipe in one place before.

A WHITE-TAILED KITE hovered above, and an AMERICAN KESTREL sat on a wire. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS sat on the chain link fence.  It was a good day to be by the bay.

Happy Holidays,
