[SBB] Guadalupe River Trail Peregrine Falcon

Shao Cheng and I birded along the Guadalupe River trail this morning
from Coleman Rd. to Chynoweth to the north. Near Coleman 3 Wilson's
Snipe were in their usual spot on the west bank. A Sora was heard again
in front of the yellow maintenance building. Two Lincoln's Sparrows, a
male Common Yellowthroat, many Am. Goldfinch and Cedar Waxwings and a
Green Heron were seen north of Blossom Hill Rd.

At the pond past the 85 freeway; 7 male and 14 f. Common Mergansers were
keeping company with 4 Common Goldeneye and 22 Lesser Scaup. Eighty
seven Canada Geese rested on the south shore. Great and Snowy Egret,
Green and Great Blue Heron were at the waters edge. We turned around
where the trail ends and found a Spotted Sandpiper walking through the
brush near the river channel.

After I dropped Shao off at his house I drove to Vista Park and Hyde
Park Dr. where a Say's Phoebe was found fly catching from a fence.
Twenty Great Egrets were quite a sight perched on the roof on an
apartment building here!!

I made a stop at the Santa Clara Valley Water District on the way home.
Here 3 Bufflehead, four Common Goldeneye, 29 Ring-necked Ducks, 5 No.
Shovelers, 5 Green Heron, 22 Ruddy Ducks and a Gadwall pair were on the
pond or in the river channel. On the north side of the property 3 Hermit
Thrush, 2 Fox Sparrows, 2 male Common Yellowthroat, a flock of Cedar
Waxwings and 5 White-throated Swifts were seen. The adult male Peregrine
Falcon flew into the largest Sycamore tree at 1:30 pm and moved to
another Sycamore after being mobbed by a large flock of Am. Crows. An
Osprey flew in from the south and flew down the river channel before I
left. I'm sure I saw over 100 Yellow-rumped Warblers today.

The Red-breasted Sapsucker continues to feed at my neighbors Pepper Tree
each afternoon.
