At 9:15am today four of us saw two Pileated Woodpeckers flying south over
Skyline Ridge. They were calling to each other and landed in some dense trees
perhaps a hundred yards south of the trail we were on. We had left the
parking lot and were climbing up the trail towards the summit and were perhaps
half way to the junction near the top. We also saw several Ruby-Crowned
Kinglets with one male showing off his crown. There were about 20 Ring-necked
Ducks in Horseshoe Pond along with Coots and a Pied-billed Grebe.
