Subject: [pen-bird] Eurasion Wigeon at Baylands Sat 12/09
In case I don't get a chance to post a more detailed version of this,
Richard Drechsler and I birded P.A. Baylands for a couple of hours
before the SFBBO walk with Al Jaramillo, and had a male Eurasion
Wigeon in the Marsh Trail slough. The bird was not to be found two
hours later at high tide.
Also, we saw a Red-tailed Hawk in a bare tree north of the Duck Pond
that was very dark with a white throat. At first I thought it was an
Osprey. I could not circle it before it flew. Later, Al saw a Harlan's
Hawk in flight; perhaps the same bird.
Two very visible, active Clapper Rails along the boardwalk, east of
rail alley.
Best of day birding: Gull class ad hoc, one post at a time, along the
Duck Pond, and Identification of "messy" (hybrid) gulls on the water,
by Al. Otherwise, all usual suspects.
