[SBB] SWSP at Palo Alto Baylands

All,

My lunch break was a bit after the high tide today 12/4/06, but I decided to check out the Palo Alto Baylands anyway. Water level at "the corner" was unimpressive, so I headed out to look for sparrows. Mike Mammoser was returning from doing just that, without much success, but joined me for another attempt. This time it paid off. We got nice views of a SWAMP SPARROW along the path between the outfall channel and the airport runway at 12:35pm. The bird was about 70 yards past the last coyotebrush, by the second of two wooden stakes with pink flagging on top. This is just before the second weather station (on a red and white pole, without a wind sock) out along the airstrip.

Lots of SORA and VIRGINIA RAILS calling as well - and an adult PEREGRINE FALCON hunting KILLDEER low over the airstrip.
