I birded in Guadalupe Oak Grove Park today at noon for the first time in months. I found two juvenile Coopers Hawks hunting together on the wooded trail. As I started on the Quarry trail on the west side of the park, a pair of adult Golden Eagles flew over the ridge. Their dark silhouettes looked beautiful against the clear blue sky. I kept an eye out for them as I continued walking north. Suddenly one eagle flew over me and pounced on its prey on a nearby hill. An Am. Kestrel and Red shouldered Hawk were in hot pursuit. I climbed the highest hill and watched the eagle circling in the sky until it was over the park again. The eagle then went into a stoop and disappeared over the Villa's property. I believe this is the pair that nested in Sierra Azul. It's always a thrill to see them here in my neighborhood park.
