Re: [SBB] Monte Bello Open Space Preserve

The tail was small, and in reviewing my mammal books after I got
home, the closest thing seems to be a small Coyote pup, or possibly
Long-tailed Weasel.

After we hung up with Karen, the owl we had seen on the line on the
hill above the park and ride returned, then another joined it. We
also heard 1-2 others calling.

Speaking of owls, Kay and I checked out Long Ridge preserve after
dark with permit on 8/11. At the pond, the frogs were silent unlike
on 7/14, but we did hear a few calls of one Western Screech Owl.
Also, returning via the short trail to LR10, we heard tapping on both
sides of the trail. One source was coming from higher than the other.
After a few minutes of searching with red then white flashlight, a CA
Quail flushed from further back and higher than the lower source of tapping.
