I didn't get more than a few yards up the trail when I heard the BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHER. It was giving its distinctive buzzy call, and flying to the top of the sage brush continuously, while I was on that stretch of trail. I was going to report on how gray it appeared until I saw its back, which was quite blue. It appeared to be following me up the trail. I'm not making this up, as Dave Barry would say. I last saw this bird quite a bit further north on Dec. 26 with Kim Blythe doing the Calero-Morgan Hill CBC.
